[identity profile] prittylittlelie.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] egl_archive
Hi, this is my first time posting even though I'm not brand new.
Look what I found on the hot topic website! http://www.hottopic.com/store/product.asp?LS=0&ITEM=262442&RN=182
EGL has been discovered by hot topic, oh no...

I'm just wondering why they call it "lola goth". o_O

Hehe, Hot Topic gets enough flak from conservative parent groups (especially when I lived in the midwest - it would get picketed, lol!). They probably just didn't want the term "lolita" slapped all over too much ;)

......

Welcome to two months ago. This topic has been covered so many times... why bring it up again? Other than a sad attempted at being featured on ljdrama.org, anyways....

Jeez, it would take so much less effort for you to just skip the post.

To be honest, I was slightly annoyed too at seeing Lolagoth repeated again...skipping the post is well and good, but the fact is that it clutters up your Friends page with the same issue, over-and-over-and-over again until everyone's so sick of it that they snap and make a comment about it, as what happened above.

Lolagoth has been at HT for quite a bit longer than the two months I saw mentioned earlier. Perhaps I'm being unrealistic, but I would expect that if an item was not listed under "New" or something of that nature, I'd assume most people probably know about it already? Especially in a large EGL community, and with so many so critical of Hot Topic.

But still, everyone is free to express their opinions ^^ Let's all calm down and take a nice sip of chamomile tea...

Hey, you know, just coz we know about it doesn't mean she did. A lot of people join an say, "I'm new to EGL" and not everyone checks Hot Topic all the time. Personally, I don't show there anymore and I didn't know about the damn shirts until the last post. Also, maybe the person is new to the community. Skipping the post is way easier, and personally, I think you guys should give her some slack. Maybe she just wanted to make conversation, too.

Why don't we all just play nice.

I wasn't attacking her...I'm sorry if that's the way it sounded to you. I was just expressing my opinion on the matter.

I know, and it wasn't just to you *saying this in the least confrontational way possible*, it's everyone. I feel bad when someone, especially someone new or hasn't been comfortable enough to post finally does and gets flamed. After all that, people get up the nerve, they say their piece and get torn a new one for it. I just don't like to sit by and watch people get torn apart.

I stick up for the underdog.

Lola-Goth resurfaces again?

It makes me wonder, actually, if they're going after Elegant Gothic Lolita so much as Gothic Lolita...which is the American branch of the fashion, right? The artwork on her is terrible, true, but I still think a couple of the shirts are cute.

So what if HT is corporate and mainstream? Just means that the word will be spread to the masses, and from there we can teach them about EGL in its true form.

From: [identity profile] leatherkngs.livejournal.com
But who says the masses will listen? They can be pretty stupid at times -_O;

Date: 2003-11-30 11:26 pm (UTC)

Then why stress about it? As long as they're happy with their fashion choices, that's all anyone should be concerned with ^^ It doesn't matter if you're expressing yourself with a "corporate" Lolagoth shirt, or if you're doing it by walking down the street in a one-of-a-kind designer Lolita dress from Japan.

All you can do is say to them "Hey, you know, in Japan..." And leave it at that. They can pursue it from there, or ignore you. The choice is theirs, and as annoying as it may seem, we've just got to deal.

Actually, Elegant Gothic Lolita is just what Mana calls the Gothic Lolita portion of his line. Gothic Lolita is still the Japanese fashion, it's just a term that can be applied to certain clothing from any Lolita label. The Western concept you're thinking of is Lolita Goth, or Kinder Whore, but the Lola Goth character doesn't reflect either of these Western ideas, she's meant to represent dyed in the wool Gothic Lolita.

The artist, Matt Riser, is very knowledgable about the Japanese music and fashion scene, plus he's an excellent artist, so he just drew something he liked. If you look at the character, she doesn't exhibit any of the inappropriate signs of Kinder Whore. Her skirts are modestly long, not mini, she doesn't have boobs hanging out, and her dresses are stylishly designed like Gothic Lolita dresses should be. She even carries around cute parasols and dons headdresses and mini top hats just like proper lolis often do. ^.^

I like her little bandages as well, as I like the Loli's who wear bandages, eye patches, etc. It's tough and cute in all those frills. I'm actually quite a fan of the Lola Goth illustrations, even if I'm not a fan of the construction of the Tshirts they're printed on. But that's the fault of the manufacturer, not the artist. ::Shrug::

*shrugs*

It's only natural for something to become more and more mainstream as it becomes more popular.

No use bitchin' about it.

hmm is that dejavou in the air i think it is. Trust me honey the board went through the opinions on this a MONTHS ago and as i see it no one in my area is walking around in dollie outfits yet so i doubt its going to mainstreem. Havnt got it right here in the states as it is so im sure an air freshner isnt going to "impact the american loli scene"

NOoooo not this topic again. Lola Goth is supposed to be the EGL character's name. If you look at these hot topic designs the face looks like it was copied from the Count Cain Manga. As for why I'm posting, because I was totally involved in this topic months ago because I was the one who thought he ripped me off once since I have a store called Loligoth Shop at http://www.cafepress.com/loligoth Though it turns out it was just a coincidence that we both decided to do egl characters on a shirt and that he had the name lola goth positioned like my logo loligoth and I thought he stole that, but Matt Riser the artist says its not a logo *shrug* I think Hot Topic hates me now because I almost sued them so there's no chance I can sell any EGL shirt designs to them I guess. =( I'm working on a poster and two more shirt designs for my Loligoth site though, and I can assure you my art will kick Hot Topic's little trendy butt.

your designs are light years better then his!- If hot topic had any brains they would have dumped Matt Riser and hired you in a shot.

Hey I hope all this doesn't stop you from posting, we're really all nice here!

How about cutting people some slack, I mean seriously how are newbies supposed to learn something if everytime they say something they get yelled at, cheesh! I mean even if someone says something wrong how about being nice & explaining why its wrong.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm learning as I go along & the way I see it you learn by making mistakes, asking questions & talking to others so please kitties give everyone a chance to learn about Elegant Gothic Lolita fashion & lets not try & intimidate newcomers...

I'm no expert on anything to do with Japanese fashion so please don't flame me, this is just what I think...

*Hugs*
