I'm currently working on a fashion article about the Japanese EGL/EGA movement for the upcoming web site, The Alternative Fashion Guide. I've been writing fashion articles for years now, and I'm a great perfectionist about my writing. I'm one who tends to do massive research before taking on a subject. I've been into EGL for over a year now, and I believe I can safely say I know a good deal about the movement itself. I would like to write about a variety of things concerning EGL, such as the history, the influences, and some of the designers and people who fuel the movement. I want it to be informative, and enjoyable to read.

I would like some input, however, on what some you would like to see in an article. I think I speak for nearly everyone when I say the attempts most of us have seen thus far have been horribly disappointing. Even Vogue couldn't get it right. 0.o So, what do feel has been overlooked, or totally misinterpreted?

Also, if anyone could direct to me to any sources where one can find correct EGL history information, that would be great. Over the months I've researched on it, I keep finding various versions.

I think the attitudes and personalities of the EGL's have been totally misinterpreted. People seem to think they are trashy, satanic, and slutty. That's what been said to me about them, and I'm really dissapointed that's how EGL's are getting labeled. :\

Perhaps it would be good to note in the article that EGL is a subset of the greater jrock movement. Much the same way as it would be inappropriate to talk about romanti-goths or industri-goths without talking about the greater american goth movement, it is wholly inappropriate to not take into account that EGL does not stand alone. EGA and gothic-punk and other fashion styles are closely connected with EGL to the point that they intermingle and can sometimes be difficult to tell apart from one another. EGL is indeed it's own thing, but it cannot be understood at all if you don't look at the other things with which it is so closely connected to and influenced by.
That's just my two cents though.

when you say gothic punk, do you mean neogothic?

... because it htought that was more witht eh um styles along with ega and egl as opposed to western gothic-punk....which is most definatley from the movement from the whole...american gothic scene.

Neogothic was exactly what I was talking about.
I wanted to send the response before it slipped my mind to do so and couldn't think of the proper term due to being filled with entirely too much turkey. gothic-punk was the closest thing I could think of at the time and I figured that the lovely Ms.Christina would get what I was talking about.
Sumimasen wa!

Although, when criticizing another's syntax, is it not appropriate to at least spell-check one's own response?

hhhhh0000000eeEEEE~!

no i have given it a lot of thought and though now it is much like a taboo anyway to spell check, i often find that if this..spell checking, ends up changing many sentences and that takes me away from my original aim and intention for the post.

I wrote my reasons for it here somewhere i believe
ah well =n.n=

ja ne!

you could point out that it is a fashion style not a fetish lifestyle...

I would like to see someone mention the manga Kiss XXXX by Kusumoto Maki. She was writing about visual indies bands with EGL fans way back in the 80s, and people always seem to overlook this fact. They think Mana created the scene.

I'd say that's about right. I'm not actually sure what manga was spawned from Kiss XXXX, but I do know that it immortalised the whole "visual bands with lolita fans" idea. I don't think "lolita" was really much of a fashion form until then.

As for the EGA/EGL terms, I have no idea? I get the feeling it was Mana though ^^;

it was mana alright haha, though the whole lolita thing wasn't his, he just helped push the movement along.

And I totally agree with the above suggestions for a correct interpretation of Gothic Lolita. It only seems right after all the mess people make of the meaning nowadays =o=;;
