First time
Nov. 24th, 2003 11:21 amIve been getting my bestess friend into egl. And she is becoming my partner in crime. She actually went out in dollie clothing by herself yesterday and said she recieved the craziest responses. Which got me to remembering the first time I myself went out in dollie clothing.
Mine was actually positive, a lady was looking at me really hard and I was beggining to get a little scared because i thought she would say something really mean but instead she came up to me and said "you are the most adorable thing ive seen yet, just so cute" and she proceeded to tell my mother that I was adorable and that she loved that i had my own style.
Now ofcourse ive gotten mean responses but i was wondering if/how you guys recieved responses to the public the first time you were your dollie gear.
x-posted to places besides here.

Date: 2003-11-24 10:07 am (UTC)But then again, I'm so out-landish most of the time that it's hard to tell if dolly clothes get any more negative response than anything else.
Normally people tell me how cute I am, but I'm 5'10" and usually wear platform shoes that make me even taller. Are you really going to walk up to me and say nasty things? Prolly not. *shrugs*
I mean I get funny looks, but a lot more compliments than insults.
It's actually really irritating... even when I'm trying to look all dark and threatening and evil people will walk up to me and tell me how adorably cute I am! T____T
What's really funny is how little girls will look at me and point and tell their mommies how pretty I am and then to see their mommies look at me and either smile warmly and agree or drag their daughters off in irritation and disgust.
I'm sorry you got spat on!
That's really nasty and rude!
It's no way at all to treat a cute dolly!
*hugs*

Date: 2003-11-24 12:05 pm (UTC)Despite what people might think about old people being conservative, I think most old ladies appreciate EGL -- closer to what they remember a nice, sweet fashion to be! ^_^ Old ladies may be our secret weapon!
The only negative comments I've gotten were from soccer moms and sorority girls, the flag-wavers of the mediocre and unoriginal. (One sorority girl told me I looked "retarded" when I showed up for my school pictures in my usual "pretty clothes" loli outfit!) I'm amazed they have the guts, because, like you, Electroncat, I'm 5'10", plus platforms, and have a pretty strong frame... I just stared at the one offending girl for a while, until she got nervous and walked away.
Heck, the only time I've gotten a bad comment when in regular goth attire (for me, probably stripey socks, my everpresent maryjanes, and a black skirt & shirt) was some night relatively after halloween, when a guy (in a SUV, of COURSE) yelled "Hey, Halloween was yesterday!" Yeaaah... so clever... *rolls her eyes*
I think one reason I don't get bad comments is because I live in a fairy liberal area -- but another reason is that I do my best to maintain a sweet attitude! (Also, a lack of facial piercings and shirts that say mean things helps.) *giggles* For some reason, old ladies think pink hair-in-pigtails is adorable, not scary! Go go Lolita-chan!

Date: 2003-11-24 05:06 pm (UTC)however.. I dont have very many dolly type outfits (.. darn broken sewing machine.. *cries*) but .. I plan on getting a few more. I actually enjoy the strange looks, more so when dressed in more 'gothy' clothing. Just stare at them in sort of a blank way.. and they'll get nervous and look away or just leave.. ^_^;; ahh.
Grocery Stores are great for your first time.

I was with a friend whom was also dressed, and we went shopping at Meijer's {A store similar to Walmart} To pick up cheesecake and notebooks {I think.} A group of teenaged girls passed us making snide comments and giggling under their hands. But we just ignored it and giggled right back.

Almost every elderly woman I meet thinks I'm cute,regardless of what I'm wearing.{Especially my Grams. -gush- My Grams bought me my first Gothic+Lolita Bibles} It's because I'm chubby, and chubby lolita-chans are uber cute. Like little dollies.
Had someone spit at any of you and I was with you, I'd probably have gotten violent and beat them to death with my Supa Teddy. Supa Teddy doesn't like injustices. Especially when it has to do with fellow Lolita-chans. I'm normally Child-like and soft spoken... but when someone hurts a Lolita-chan, I turn into an angry fightin' Elfy Lolita-chan. That's when the white gloves and dainty cameo bracelets come off. With Underhanded insults and flinging tea saucers and all.
-hisshiss-
Ahem. Pardon me.

Date: 2003-11-25 05:17 am (UTC)I was somewhat pleased, but then again, some what hurt. My feelings are easily hurt. ;;
The first time I was really loli in public was early in the summer. I've always been EGA/romantic goth, but my fun lolita side, which I finds suits me better than constant angst, just came out this year. Anyway.. when I first went out in loli, I got several responses of how cute I was, and one request for a date by a much older man. I was REALLY scared, because he really thought I was like eleven or twelve.. I'm 5'1" and look younger, but really. ;; Onaiiiii~
Any advice for a newcomer?
But this was my mail idea:
Being a small 16-yr-old girl on the lower end of the high-school social heirarchy, with little support from my friends, I want to become a part of this lovely niche.
I figured that you all would know best how to answer this question:
How does a lolita-chan pull off the look with confidence and style while still being her soft-spoken and sweet self?
I will be the first in the area to dress this way, and I want to make a positive impression, maybe even inspire others to follow my lead. ^.^;
Please e-mail any replies to " kageorge@tokyo.com ", as I do not have a livejournal account.
