Greetings, my friends. A question to all Sewing Lolitas: Does this Baby The Stars Shine Bright skirt look like a circle skirt to you? Because I can't quite figure out the construction of it.

It's a common misconception that most "round" skirts are circle skirts. In making many EGL skirts, I tried at first to use circular patterns,a nd they never came out just right (especially is you are adding gathered trim at the bottom...) Once I got some clothing from Japan (and a skirt similar to that from BtSSB), and when I started looking through my Bibles and when my Homemade Gothic & Lolita sewing book came, I discovered most of the skirts are actually cut like a trapezoid (I think that is the shape).

The skirt isn't exactly like the one you want, but just illustrates that it falls the same way. (http://www.digitalmegami.com/scans/eglpattern.jpg)

And here is the pattern itself. :) (http://www.digitalmegami.com/scans/eglskirt.jpg)

The waist piece you see on some of the skirt pictures is an optional piece you can order from Baby. I'm working on drafting a pattern for one similar, and if you wish, can scan it in once I am done?

Also, get a good crinolin underneath. You should check out Leg Avenue products, they have smaller crinolins (not quite EGL style, but not as big as square dance onces) and they work nicely IMO.

Circle skirt is possible, but you can also do so by making gored skirt (cut out in pieces that accomadate the skirt design of corse), that match the waist line uptil without puckering/pleats, and then more width at the hem (many a skirts and dresses from Angelic pretty is constructed this way, with more or less width at the hem). I still do not like circle skirts as mostly they do not become very nice (trust me I've tried to make a few EGL skirts based on circle skirt then I discovered that circle skirt is a big NO NO).

The hem of my BabySSB skirt is 220 cm (circumference) so I guess that it is around there...

Once again I agree with Helena. I'm studying this picture and I'm leaning towards saying its gored. I only say this because a black skirt I have is gored and it hangs exactly the same way. I could very well be wrong; it does look like a circle skirt and translated, the message at the top says "Because the flare has entered fully, being able to add, the pannier please to be lovely", which lead me to think that because the skirt isn't made gathered like the rest of their's are, you definitely need to wear a petticoat to make it look nice (of course this could be the case if it is gored as well so either way...) ^__^

Humorous note: Excite translates the note as reading "since the flare is contained fully, please vomit and swell a pannier and vomit lovelily -- ♪"

Uh...??? Vomit lovelily?!!

It might be a circle and a half skirt, it's definately bigger than a single circle. You can make circle.5 skirts, just use three panels of half circles. I know it sounds really really strange, but it does work. Gored is also an option, though the way it's draping it doesn't look as though it is cut on a straight grain, which is why I think it might be circle.5.

divide by three or six, depending on what your original directions say. If are you making a1/4 circle pattern that then goes on a fold you usually divide by 4, here divide by 6, or a half circle pattern that is cut with no fold, usually divide by 2, here by 3. It's the same pattern, just a smaller waist measurementper piece, and one more piece goes in it.
