For all of you who have been to Japan...
Sep. 12th, 2003 07:57 pmI'm planning on going to Tokyo this year (to go on an EGL shopping trip, of course), and I was wondering- is it pretty easy to find your way around Tokyo by yourself? I'm kinda hesistant to go with a tour group for obvious reasons, but I don't want to get lost (well...I actually do, but I think my parents would be kinda upset if I didn't come home...^^). And are EGL shops easy to find there, or do you have to really search for them?
while in Tokyo
Date: 2003-09-13 02:45 pm (UTC)something absolutely great when you are in Japan is "a tourist map of Tokyo." You pick them up at the Tokyo tourist office (in the Tokyo international building, which by the way it is worth going to this place if only to see this building).
they are maps with English and Japanese written right next to each other. so if you are at a train stop where there is no english (not very likely while in Tokyo) you can compare the hiragana or Kanji to english and figure out where you are and were you need to go.
Another good thing about the map is (and I know this from much personal experiences) if you pull out a map and start looking at it in a major train station somebody will ALWAYS come and ask if you need help getting somewhere. I don't know what it is, or why, but it NEVER fails. they might not know where the H Nato shop is, but you can say "harajuku (whatever)" and they will usually point you in the right direction.
That is not really stuff about EGL shopping, but how to get around.
oh and ever forget when the last train runs... 'cause cabs... you just don't want to pay for Cab's.
