I'm moving to Osaka from the US. Are there any good egl shops there? Is there any sort of visual kei scene or anything of egl interest? Any information appreciated, as I know next to nothing about Osaka.

All I know is the band Shonen Knife is from Osaka! :) I'm so sad, they are coming to Detroit for a concert on Halloween, but I just moved to New York City and missed it. I hope you like it there! :)

Shonen Knife is going to be at the Knitting Factory in NYC on 10/26 & 27. I think they are also playing somewhere in Brooklyn, but I'm not sure. =P

So is Usagi Tsukino of Sailormoon.. *giggle* I think Naoko Takeuchi lived/lives somewhere around there as well, as she based a lot of Sailormoon's character with herself.

Um.. I remember reading some things about Osaka.. it's a fairly good-sized city.. hmm..
Maybe try looking some things up online?

I went there a few years ago and I remember seeing some stores. I'm sorry I cant tell you which ones or where they are. I saw more VK than EGL but, again, this was a few years ago so things may have changed since then. ^_^ Good luck. Have fun. Are you moving there perminantly?

I love Osaka! The best place to go shopping is a place called "America Mura" (or "Amemura" for short) located in Shinsaibashi. It used to be just a funky little teenage town, but now they have a lot of visual and goth/loli stores. Marble Visible was the first shop, but now they have a Union Jack (which sells MA/MAM and various others brands) and in this giant department store in the center of town a Miho Matsuda, Foetus, KERA loli shop... and a few others I think. Plus this really fun visual indies store where there's a vending machine you can get photosets and posters from ^^

Also in Shinsaibashi is some teeny little punk store that is PACKED with stuff (it's cheap because it's not one of the high classy brand names, and they have GREAT socks and stockings), and a nifty gothy store whose brand name I can't remember but a lot of KERA shops carry their stuff.. (The storeworkers were eyeing me shiftily for the longest time and finally asked me how I heard about the store, and I lied and said heard about it through the KERA store and they were all happy after that). There's another mini department store that has Heart E, Foetus, and some other fun goth/punk/loli store I forget the name of (it's a new brand)! The top floor has this per-gram market which is mostly used clothes but they have some fun stuff, and a print club machine. Shinsaibashi is also home to Osaka's greatest CD store, Pure Sound, who has an entire floor of used visual CDs and tour goods and so on, and they've recently started selling second-hand goth/loli/punk stores.

Osaka really is a great place, there are a ton of live houses around too. I recommend Nishikujo Brand New and Namba Rockets, but there are a lot more (a couple in Shinsaibashi too, but I haven't been to them). Also, Umeda is a very fun shopping place (they have the BIGGEST train station with like 6 malls in it and a ferris wheel), lol.. In Umeda they have a Ba-Tsu and San-nen-ni-kumi, which has cutesy punk and used to have loli stuff.

I hope you have fun there! If you ever need any help, I can try to assist you! I lived in the Osaka area for a summer, and visit often. Shinsaibashi is like a maze though.. I always get lost no matter how often I go, so don't expect to find it easily navigatable.

A while back, I posted up on here a map and guide to shopping in the Namba district of Osaka. It isn't a fully finished map and all, but it will certainly help.

Drop me an e-mail (shidoshi @ morningmayo.com, without the spaces of course) and I'll send it to you.

Oh, and I should say, Osaka is a wonderful city. I know that everybody always talks about Tokyo, but Osaka is totally under-rated. I lived there for a year, and am DYING to go back.

What are you moving there for?

heehee... my friend and I went hardcore Lolita in Osaka. ^_^ Almost everything is in the Shinsaibashi area- [livejournal.com profile] agentscuiy told you what's there, but no names. The mall with Miho Matsuda, Kera Shop and others is called "Big Step." I don't know how to get there, but if you ask someone they can tell you. Also near Big Step is the only Alice Auaa shop in the world- as you approach Big Step, turn left and go down the street with the little vendors. At the end of that block, turn to the right and look for a sign that says something like "Lifestyle for the Rogues" or something- it's in the basement, and you have to go through a creepy door. Very, VERY easy to miss.

And if you get lost, just ask one of the Gothic Lolis walking down the street- they're REALLY nice and will definitely give you directions. That's how I found Alice Auaa. ^_^ There's also a Metamorphose Temps de Fille store somewhere in Osaka... I could try to type up the addresses for you if you want me to. (Not making any promises, though.)

Have fun in Osaka! If I end up in University there next year we'll have to hook up and go shopping. ^_^
