Yes, I'm coming out of the woodworks, with a question for you Lolitas.

What I want to know is, where do I wear the wonderful outfits I make? I'm dying to show off somewhere, but I'm on summer break from school, and it's quite warm now.

Where do you guys go, or what do you do when you're all dressed up?

I myself have never dressed in EGL fashion, but I believe in Japan, the girls who are part of the EGL culture wear their outfits on weekends to shopping districts and in parks. I think there is a particular park where a great number of people who are dressed in EGL (as well as Elegant Gothic Aristocrat, Country Gothic Lolita, and other gothic fashions) visit, but I don't remember the specific name.

Found it. I believe it's Yoyogi Park in Tokyo. Members of the various Goth subcultures hang out there on Sunday, close to the Harajuku subway station.

I don't wear my clothes around all day, every day, as they will become dirty and I would be chased out of my town by peasants bearing torches. (I'm not kidding. I'm really not.) Sometimes I wear my skirts, shirts or stockings with something more conventional, but I have yet to go full Lolita just because. When I do go full Lolita, it's for nightclubs (usually Goth clubs, so I have to be Gothic Lolita and not just Loli) or costume parties. That's assuming you're of age/like clubbing, of course.

In Japan girls tend to wander about Harajuku, especially Takeshita street, where they have a lot of the main stores. One department store, Laforet, is home to Putumayo, h.NAOTO, Angelic Pretty, and others. Yoyogi Park is also popular- they usually go there to stand around, show off and pose for tourists. ^_^

Anyways... just try to work some pieces of your outfits into everyday fashion, and if you go clubbing at all, try them there. And Halloween is always a good time to dress up. ^_~

Because there aren't any anime cons in Australia (yet), I don't get much chance to dress up and go out. The times I have, it's been for karaoke, dinner with friends or seeing a movie. Oh, and playing DanceDance Revolution or ParaPara Paradise, because that's a very Japanese thing too^_^

Manifest is an anime convention in Melbourne, Australia on August 9-10.

I live a long way away from Melbourne, but there is going to be a sci-fi/fantasy/comic/anime convention sometime in September, which will be the first ever in Brisbane. It's going to be my first chance to show off to lots of people!

Well, I've never dressed up full power, since this is a tropical country.,.. and i switch from egl to my more usual quirky japanese street fashion inspired clothes...

but the way i do elg is much more simple... Not as much poof and all... I just wear a simple headdress and the same egl stuff, but i'm never overly dolled up so i can wear it anywhere, like going to school, or watching movies, or going out with my freinds and stuff.

well... lets see.

when in college... i get lazy, so i only wear goth loli stuff when i'm sewing other goth loli clothes... (usually b/c i am wearing the article of clothing i just put together and trying it on for size).

generally though i'd wear it to:
- fancy outings (like the LA Philharmonic concerts)
- sundays to Little Tokyo (the japan area in LA), and it would be lunch, shopping and stuff, tea time at 4, more shopping, go home. ^.^
- anime conventions
- goth clubs (tho they're not fun to dance in... if you have a floofy skirt)

yah... that's all the places i've pretty much worn my stuff. :X

Contrariwise, I usually go full loli "just because" -- I'm lucky enough to live in a fairly large, fairly cool town, with a really pretty downtown historic mall district. My friends and I have taken to dressing up and wandering around there, trying to make it our own Harajuku... ^-^ *daydreams* ... when I lived in more of a city (versus town), we used to go to more mall-type malls in dress of various types. Myu. Obviously, may get more stares and snickering in more... repressed areas.

Oddly enough, I hardly ever go full-on loli dress to clubs... I find it's too hot! *sweatdrop* The most I'll do is headpieces and occasionally wrist corsets... with my shorter, lower-cut dresses. "Frosted cupcake" dresses are too difficult to dance in, anyway! ^-^;;;

My suggestion: Grab your friends and have a tea party! It's the perfect sitting-down, climate-controlled fun social event for lolita... even if the rest of your friends simply wear something normal. (But most everyone likes to dress up somehow! Yee!) You can even switch it up, and have it once a week/month at different peoples' houses. (Is what we do a lot.) Also, it's the perfect excuse to try out those goth cookie recipes from the bibles. ^_^

when to wear

You should wear them wenever you'd like, and hang the public's opinion!

Pardon me, Just saw Pirates this weekend.

But seriously, usually weekends are a good time to wear them. Nothing to do except shopor wander around unless you have a lot of homework or a weekend job. But for the former, it always looks cute to be doing your homework in the park under a parasol.

Or you could find a tea house that maybe has a High Tea or brunch and go on a small outing. Similar events like that. But basically, whenever the mood takes you is best.

bah

The great thing about Gothic Lolita style is that it has so many little facets. If you live in a warm place, you can do a short skirt all white and some pale blue look, and in a cold place, a slightly longer skirt with furry legwarmers etc, and all black with red and white lace to highlight.
I go to the arcade dressed up, and midnight movies.
It isn't just rocky anymore.
