hi, im new in this community. i read read it alot, but never post, soo i guess im kind of a lurker. today ive got a question. i wanted to make a cute cherry skirt and top for summer. like the ones metamorphose carrys, but looking more like their lace tiered skirt. so ive got all these ideas and i dont know if they will work. if anyone want to share ideas, the rest is in the cut tag.
so i get some fabric, heres the best i could find. the stores are out so i got this off ebay. the yellow in it kind of throws me off a little. im not a very vellow type of person. but its so cute.
so what i wanted to do was add this big black ruffle to the bottom of the skirt, add the lace and whatnot. but when i pinned it together it looked like a square dance skirt. i think its all the bright colors.

am i better going with some white eyelet lace instead of the ruffle? i think that might look nice with the blossoms. i can also use black laces only, that might make the colors pop out less. or should i just go for the ruffle and lace and see if it looks better than i thought?

yeah I did a similar skirt without the ruffles I used white lace with black ribbon and it turn out quite well

that soo cute. i just got this lot of different laces and eyelet laces off ebay for 6 dollars, 30 yards in all with about 4 to 5 yards of each kind. im very excited i have so many to choose from.

Really pretty fabric! I think white eyelet lace would would make the dress fresh-looking and sweet. Also check if you can find black eyelet lace. It might look good too.
You can't go too wrong with cheries.

Most eyelet lace is 100% cotton, so if one wants black eyelet, all one needs to do is get some black Rit dye and voila!

watch it thought, loads of it is poly cotton so do a test section first. I've ruined loads of cute lace beause it wasnt made of cotton.

Though sometimes you get surprised when you get poly thread so you get black eyelet with white embroidory or stay stitching. Which is cool just sometimes a surprise.

i always read the labels before i buy fabric or trim to see if i can dye it black. heh.

yeah i did a pinafore dress in really light pink eyelet cotton that i dyed. it was a pain at first because it came out kinda bright, but i found some color remover from rit and it lightened it up to a really nice baby pink. the black dye always gets grey, i think im doing it wrong. grr.

when yr doing black, it's usually best to use twice as much dye as they say to use. ditto with other very dark colors.

My tips: it's a very busy pattern, so keep the design simple. Black lace looks better than white lace on it too.
