Lolita Crafts? (2 way clips)

So, I've noticed a lot of those 2- way fuzzy clips showing up lately and I'm kind of wondering what hey are made of? I haven't actually bought one yet because I would much rather make my own accessories. Some people tell me that it's just yarn wrapped around some sort of wire... but what kind of yarn? Other people say they are knitted. The ones from Chocomint (Sorry, I may be thinking of another company) are probably made differently from the ones on etsy, right? Anyway, advice is much appreciated.
