Apr. 27th, 2003 06:06 pmHey everyone, gotta quick question.
I heard from a friend that platforms are no longer in style in Japan @_@; imagine...everyone will be short again! Haha. This made me relize im not up-to-date on the latest fashions in Japan. Anyone know what kinda stuff is popular over there now? I can really find any recent pictures, everything is like 1997 or something like that. Any info would be welcome ^_^!

Date: 2003-04-27 04:11 pm (UTC)The most popular style last year was the really casual one... I don't know what it's called, but it's a little alternative, a little punky looking. Lots of layers -- T-shirt on top of long-sleeved shirt on top of big skirt on top of jeans. Clothing tends to be rather loose, not tight -- Japanese girls think that wearing clothes too large for them makes them appear to have thinner bodies. It's a lot like the way grunge became popular after the really flamboyant '80s styles in the US, except that the Japanese kids are clean.
I'm not surprised that you haven't seen any pictures of this recent style. It's really not worth the trouble of posting to the world, it's that boring.

Date: 2003-04-28 01:54 am (UTC)I have some recent issues of FRUiTS and most of it is pretty boring. I prefer the older stuff. Some of the people in the book are AMAZING!

Date: 2003-04-29 10:09 am (UTC)There are a fair amount of punks in FRUiTS, but they're not all punks [by my British standards anyway]. Maybe punk is used in the same way as "alternative" is here *shrugs*

Date: 2003-04-27 05:40 pm (UTC)I'll try to help ^^
Date: 2003-04-27 04:58 pm (UTC)"punx" ("punk" style seems to be very popular right now, all sorts of Sex Pistols references, red plaid and ripped up black outfits)
"Vivienne" (Vivienne Westwood style)
"Cheap" (putting together thrift store finds...mostly 70s/80s type stuff)
"Petite Lolita" (the classic little girl look, minus the "gothic"...it seems the child-like look is very in right now too)
"otona no onna" (adult woman style)
"core style" (which I'm guessing is "hardcore" style since it reminds me of a "heavy metal" style of dressing)
"Cyber" & "Gothic"
Like I said I'll work on getting these pages scanned tonight or in the next few days.
The Punk Lolita hybrid seems pretty popular now as well ^^
